Over 10 Years of Clinical Use of Seacure® from Uruguay!

Uruguay, South America's second smallest country, posseses a high-standard medical system. It was in Uruguay over a period of many years that the wide potential uses of the supplement known as "bio-proteo-catenolizado", or BPC for short, was solidly proven (side note - BPC and Seacure® are 2 names for the exact same product). For a period of about 14 years it was administered to many thousands of patients on the recommendation of more than 200 leading physicians and surgeons who were staff members at the University of the Republic of Uruguay's School of Medicine hospital and other medical centers throughout the country.

Aquiles Delfino, MD, at the time coordinator of research at the medical school clinic, documented the supplement's diverse applications. His observations and study reports appear in an article entitled "BPC - A Fish Protein Concentrate For Human Consumption," published in "Nutrition and Food Science: Present Knowledge and Utilization," Volume 2, Plenum Press (New York, 1980), edited by Walter Santos of the Brazilian Nutrition Society. In his paper, Delfino said the product "has been taken by more than 100,000 people with no toxic or pathological reaction," including its use as a supplementary food given to premature babies under the close supervision of physicians.

In Uruguay, doctors acquired clinical experiences with Seacure® in the treatment of the following conditions: premature and dystrophic babies, immune defeciency, diarrhea and protein allergies, neoplasms (cancer), wound healing and recovery from surgery. Each condition will be covered in more detail below.


Consistently, edema and respiratory insufficiency were resolved without diarrhea or any other side effects. Tolerance was excellent -- 99 percent -- based on administration of 1 to 2 grams daily. The supplement was routinely given to infants with a body weight of 1500 grams or less via a nasogastric tube. This procedure was started between 6 and 12 hours after birth.

One study monitored the progress of 1500 premature babies who had received the supplement, and found they started walking between 12 and 14 months of age. Their level of intelligence was within normal range. The only exceptions were those with an aggravated case of encephalic syndrome.

In another large study with premature infants weighing between 650 and 2000 grams revealed a significant improvement in weight and globulin and gammaglobulin levels (indicators of immunity) 30 to 60 days after the start of the Seacure®. None of the children given Seacure® developed edema. When the premature infants not receiving Seacure® developed edema, the use of Seacure® resulted in a disappearance of the edema in 48 to 72 hours!

The researchers also tested a combination of two-third's mother milk and one third Seacure® for premature infants. They found a better result in regard to assimilation and weight gain as compared to milk alone!

In cases of first and second degree dsytrophy, a study was conducted involving 25 infants aged 4 to 6 months. Their condition improved and weight increased in 90% of them during the first 7 to 10 days on the supplement. In third degree dystrophy, recovery was much faster than when taking the normal food. The researchers reported a "most remarkable" disappearance of dysergia (motor incoordination due to defective nerve transmissions).

Another tightly controlled study involved a group of 22 pregnant women who were at risk of giving birth to lower than normal weight babies. The group was divided into two halves. One half received Seacure® and the other half did not. All those women that received Seacure® gave birth to normal weight babies. Those women that received a placebo and not Seacure® gave birth to babies with lower than normal weight.


Individuals with poor natural immunity have benefited significantly from taking Seacure®. Acording to the team of doctors headed by Delfino, Seacure® was given to a group of 14 children with a low level of imunity (as determined by immune serum globulins) and a second group with normal globulin values. After starting the youngsters on doese of 2 to 3 grams daily, retesting revealed an improvement described by the researchers as "good to spectacular."

In another immunologic study involving 70 children, both clinical and laboratory results were reported as good.

The Uruguayan docotrs and researchers suggested that the role of Seacure® was probably not limited to promoting antibody production alone, but rather it may also have a role in other immune system activity in which proteins play a fundamental role.


Participants at the Third International Forum of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition held in Brazil in 1977, recommended the utilization of hydrolyzed (pre-digested) proteins for feeding in cases of chronic diarrhea. At the conference, a report was read on the use of Seacure® for treating both acute and chronic diarrhea among children and adults over a period of 2 years. Responses ranged from "excellent to good." None of the individuals' conditions grew worse after using Seacure®. Individual tolerance to Seacure® was reported as being 99%! In diarrhea, there is a decrease in the digestive juices as well as changes in the intestinal lining. the researchers and doctors said. The intake of Seacure® helps to bring about a faster recovery.

In cases of individuals developing diarrhea as a result of intolerance to cow's milk, a feeding of 3 parts Seacure® to 1 part cow's milk alleviated the problem. When Seacure® was used to entirely replace cow's milk, the individual's condition cleared up completely.


Seacure® was added to the diets of many patients with a variety of terminal tumors, among them lung, breast, rectum, esophagus, urinary bladder and intestine. The general nutrition status of the patients impoved considerably. All the patients studied had been experiencing pain at the time of Seacure® administration, and they were receiving pharmaceutical pain-killers. According to the doctors, a remission of pain was reported by ALL patients shortly after Seacure® was started. Some were able to stop medication and in a number of case an actual reduction in tumor size was documented.


In 1981 a team of physicians & surgeons at the University Hospital in Uruguay compared the use of Seacure® against a standard protein source (casein or milk protein) for post-surgical pateints suffering from either localized or generalized cancer. Results of the study were categorized according to weight gain or loss, blood complement variables, skin and muscle tone, nitrogen balance, metabolism and overall condition. Only 10 percent of the casein-fed patients were rated in good condition and 40 percent were rated poor. By comparison, soem 58 percent of the Seacure® patients were rated as good and only 22 percent poor.

Many of those rated in poor condition suffered from severe post-operative complications and eventually died. The physicians reported, however, that there were clinical and subjective benefits even among those in poor condition who were fed Seacure®. The benefits included less pain.
